Flashback Post: May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Did you know May is Mental Health Awareness month? Did you also know that not only do I run my own business and homeschool a kick-ass 11 year old with Asperger’s, but I also struggle with anxiety and depression?
Over the past few years, I have become more open about my mental health journey and my struggles. Sadly, many are scared to talk about it or don’t have the ability to get help. Here are 3 statistics about anxiety most people don’t recognize:
1) Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults in the United States age 18 and older, or 18.1% of the population every year.
2) Anxiety disorders are highly treatable, yet only 36.9% of those suffering receive treatment.
3) Finally, people with an anxiety disorder are three to five times more likely to go to the doctor and six times more likely to be hospitalized for psychiatric disorders than those who do not suffer from anxiety disorders.
